Many people avoid the dentist out of fear and anxiety. For some, a traumatic or painful event at the dentist when they were younger may carry over to adulthood. For others, the fear of lengthy procedures keeps them away. Regardless of the reason for your dental phobia, Dr. Löberg is happy to offer IV sedation to provide his patients in Laguna Hills with a calm and relaxing dental experience.
Candidates for sedation dentistry are people who have:
In your initial consultation, Dr. Löberg will discuss your dental problems and go over your medical history to come up with a treatment plan. Once he determines you are a qualified candidate for sedation dentistry, he will explain the recommended procedures along with sedation techniques and answer any questions that you may have. You will then schedule your appointment to begin treatment.
Sedation dentistry helps patients relax during dental procedures through the use of medication. In IV sedation, the patient receives the sedative intravenously, allowing it to work very quickly.
You are required to bring someone with you on the day of your procedure because you are not permitted to leave the office unescorted. Once you arrive, a dental assistant will help you get seated in the procedure chair and covered with a warm blanket to keep you comfortable. Once the IV has been placed, we will constantly monitor your heart rate, breathing, blood oxygen levels, and blood pressure. You will not be completely unconscious, but rather in a deep state of relaxation. The effects of the drugs will work immediately and some patients will report feeling so calm that they just want to close their eyes and drift off to sleep. Afterward, patients report having little to no memory of the procedure!
Dr. Löberg cares deeply about the comfort of his patients. Through IV sedation, he is able to put their apprehension about the dental office to rest. Your anxiety no longer has to stand in the way of healthy teeth and gums. Call to set up your consultation to find out if sedation dentistry is right for you.
