As dental providers, we are well aware of the dread that is felt by many at the thought of an impending appointment. For some, this sense of fear or anxiety may just be worrying about potential problems. For others, this may be a deep-rooted fear that stems from bad experiences in the past. At our office, we offer conscious IV sedation to help patients to feel comfortable during their visit.
Dental anxiety is actually quite common. Just think about it. Most people are uncomfortable when they are in a position of vulnerability, as is the case when you are in the dental chair. We want all of our patients to feel relaxed and at ease when they are in our office. If you have any feelings of anxiety or fear, it is important not to dismiss them. By sharing your concerns with us, we are able to help you address them and have a positive dental experience.
Managing dental anxiety is different for every patient. We have many years of experience helping you work through the process and alleviate your fears. For some patients, we find that discussing the specifics of the planned procedure and walking them through the process is enough to calm their nerves. For other patients, we may recommend sedation.
IV sedation is a safe and effective method for addressing moderate to severe dental anxiety. Our team has advanced training in the administration of IV sedation. Because the sedative medication is delivered intravenously, the effects of the medication are felt immediately. Patients are conscious during IV sedation, but will have no memory of their treatment. You will remain in a state of deep relaxation, and may feel as though you slept through it. During your treatment, we will continually monitor your vital signs. Patients who opt for IV sedation will need to arrange for transportation to and from their procedure.
There is a more relaxing way to experience dental work. Please contact our team if you would like to learn more about sedation dentistry and if it is right for you.
